أنا صاحبُ الملك الذي قال إنني

أنا صاحبُ الملك الذي قال إنني

أنا نائبٌ فيه بأصدقِ قيلِ

أنا نائبٌ فيه بأصدقِ قيلِ

I am the master of the dominion of which He said that I

I am the owner of the kingdom who said that I

am a deputy therein, in the truest words.

Am his deputy with the most truthful saying

ولو لم يكن ملكي لما صح أن أرى

ولو لم يكن ملكي لما صح أن أرى

موكله والحقُّ فيه وكيلي

موكله والحقُّ فيه وكيلي

And were it not my dominion, I could not rightly be seen

If my kingdom were not, it would not be correct that I see

as His principal, while the Real is my agent therein.

Its mandated and the right in it is my attorney

وعن أمرنا كانت وكالتنا له

وعن أمرنا كانت وكالتنا له

وبرهان دعوايَ وعين دليلي

وبرهان دعوايَ وعين دليلي

And by our command came our delegation of authority to Him;

And about our order was our deputy to it

And the proof of my claim, and my very evidence,

And proof of my claim and the eye of my evidence

كتابٌ له حقٌ وفيه اعترافه

كتابٌ له حقٌ وفيه اعترافه

بما قلت فيه فالسبيلُ سبيلي

بما قلت فيه فالسبيلُ سبيلي

is a true book of His, containing His acknowledgment

A book for it is a right and in it is his admission

of what I said about Him; thus the path is my path.

With what I said in it so the way is my way

يقول بأضدادِ الأمورِ وجوده

يقول بأضدادِ الأمورِ وجوده

فقد حرتُ فيه وهو خير خليل

فقد حرتُ فيه وهو خير خليل

His existence speaks through the opposites of things;

He speaks with the opposites of things and his existence

So I have been bewildered by Him, though He is the best of friends.

So I was confused in it and he is the best friend

عجبت له من غائب وهو حاضر

عجبت له من غائب وهو حاضر

بتنغيذ أخبار وبعثِ رسول

بتنغيذ أخبار وبعثِ رسول

I marveled at Him: absent, yet present,

I was amazed by him from an absent one while he is present

by dispatching tidings and sending a messenger—

With the notification of news and the sending of a messenger

إلى مَن وإنَّ العينَ عينُ وجودِه

إلى مَن وإنَّ العينَ عينُ وجودِه

وممن فقد حرنا فكيف وصولي

وممن فقد حرنا فكيف وصولي

To whom, when the entity is the very essence of His existence?

To whom and that the eye is the eye of his existence

And from whom? We are bewildered; how, then, can I arrive

And from whom we missed so how is my arrival

إلى منزلٍ ما فيه عينٌ غريبةٌ

إلى منزلٍ ما فيه عينٌ غريبةٌ

ولا حيرةٌ فيها شفاءُ خليل

ولا حيرةٌ فيها شفاءُ خليل

at an abode with no alien being,

To a place in which there is no strange eye

nor bewilderment in which lies an intimate friend's healing?

And no confusion in it, the healing of a friend
