أنا ورقاءُ المثاني

مَسكني رَوضُ المعاني

I am the gray dove of dualities.

I am the sublime verses

My dwelling is the garden of meanings.

My abode is the garden of meanings

أنا عينٌ في العيانِ

أنا عينٌ في العيانِ

ليس لي غيرُ المثاني

ليس لي غيرُ المثاني

I am an essence in the visible realm.

I am an eye witnessing Existence

I have nothing but dualities.

I have none other than the sublime verses

فيناديني يا ثاني

فيناديني يا ثاني

وأنا لستُ بثاني

وأنا لستُ بثاني

So He calls me, “O second!”

So call me, oh companion

Yet I am no second.

And I am not a companion

ينتهي إلى وجودي

ينتهي إلى وجودي

كلُّ شيءٍ في الكيان

كلُّ شيءٍ في الكيان

In my existence culminates

Everything in existence ends with me

Everything in being.

I recite the one whose essence

أنا أتلو من تسامتْ

أنا أتلو من تسامتْ

ذاتُه عنِ العيانِ

ذاتُه عنِ العيانِ

I follow Him whose exalted

Transcended existence

Essence is beyond sight.

I have acquired wisdom

لي حكمٌ مُستفادٌ

لي حكمٌ مُستفادٌ

في الأقاصي والأداني

في الأقاصي والأداني

Mine is a derived authority

In the farthest and nearest places

Among the farthest and the nearest.

I have no equal but the one

ليس لي مثل سوى من

ليس لي مثل سوى من

شانُه يشبه شاني

شانُه يشبه شاني

I have no peer except one

Whose affair resembles mine

Whose state resembles mine.

So critique if you wish

فانتقد إن كنتَ تبغي

فانتقد إن كنتَ تبغي

ما أتى به لساني

ما أتى به لساني

So examine closely, if you seek

What my tongue has brought

What my tongue has brought forth,

Of subtle things that draped

من رقائقَ تدلَّتْ

من رقائقَ تدلَّتْ

بحقائقَ حسانِ

بحقائقَ حسانِ

Of subtleties that have descended

The realities of beautiful making

With beautiful truths,

For hearts that have turned

لقلوبٍ قد تولَّتْ

لقلوبٍ قد تولَّتْ

عن زخارفِ الجِنانِ

عن زخارفِ الجِنانِ

For hearts that have turned away

From the superficialities of paradise

From the finery of Paradise’s gardens,

Seekers of the Most High

طالباتٍ من تعالى

طالباتٍ من تعالى

عن تصاريفِ الزمانِ

عن تصاريفِ الزمانِ

Seeking Him who is exalted

Beyond the cycles of time

Above the vicissitudes of time.

He is the One, the Exalted

فهو الفردُ المعلى

فهو الفردُ المعلى

ما له في الحكمِ ثاني

ما له في الحكمِ ثاني

For He is the exalted Unique One;

He has no second in dominion

He has no second in authority.

It is He who chose me

وهو الذي اجتباني

وهو الذي اجتباني

وهو الذي اصطفاني

وهو الذي اصطفاني

And He is the One who singled me out,

And He who elected me

And He is the One who chose me,

And made me a peer

وأقامني عَديلاً

وأقامني عَديلاً

بين دنٍّ ودِنانِ

بين دنٍّ ودِنانِ

And set me as a counterpart

Between baseness and exaltation

Between a wine jar and wine jars.

So I oppose all opponents

فأُقاصي كلَّ قاصٍ

فأُقاصي كلَّ قاصٍ

وأُداني كلَّ داني

وأُداني كلَّ داني

So I keep far from everyone distant,

And befriend all companions

And draw near to everyone near,

And assist all assistants

وأُوالي كلَّ والٍ

وأُوالي كلَّ والٍ

وأُعاني كلَّ عاني

وأُعاني كلَّ عاني

And befriend every ruler,

And accompany all accompaniers

And care for every captive.

فإذا هَويت سَفلاً

فإذا هَويت سَفلاً

فبروجُ السَّرَيانِ

فبروجُ السَّرَيانِ

So when I fall downward,

So when I fall low

Then, the towers of permeation;

It is by the mansions of exaltation

وإذا صعدتُ عُلواً

وإذا صعدتُ عُلواً

فلتحليل المباني

فلتحليل المباني

And when I ascend on high,

And when I ascend on high

Then it is to dissolve the structures.

It is by unraveling creations

فأنا أعطي المعاني

فأنا أعطي المعاني

وأنا أخلي المغاني

وأنا أخلي المغاني

So I bestow meanings,

So I give meanings

And I empty the abodes.

And I empty supplications
