His existence produces my being, so that we may know Him.

And knowledge of me gives rise to knowledge of God.

Thus our being has its basis in reason's proof,

and knowledge has its source in His radiant revealed law.

And do not say, "This is a fallacy concerning the Real."

The truth is what I said about the matter, O heedless one.

God cared for me when He taught me

such things, without wealth or rank.

    وليس يعرفه ساهٍ ولا واهي

    This is rank, if you ascertain its station;

and neither the heedless nor the feeble recognize it.

The Real asks me about what is not perceived

except through us, by a perceiver through sense or sexual union.

The house of reflection is the spider's house, and the hou-

se of unveiling, to them, is frail in their thinking.

Were it not for reflection, people would be at ease

in knowing God, not the One who commands and forbids.

And none worship Him but those who declare Him transcendent,

in every entity, beyond counterparts and likenesses.

When the messenger of the Real comes to you, granting you

names sent forth, do not say, "What are they?"

Take them, and do not apply analogy to them,

nor derivation; and be like the frail scholar.
