أقسم بالسماءِ ذاتِ الحيك

أقسم بالسماءِ ذاتِ الحيك

وقال لا تقسم إلا بالملكْ

وقال لا تقسم إلا بالملكْ

He swore by the sky with its woven texture,

I swear by the embroidered sky

and said: Swear only by the King.

And it said, "Do not swear except by the King."

عظمتكم إذ كنتمُ إلى قسما

عظمتكم إذ كنتمُ إلى قسما

فعظموني مثل تعظيمِ الملكْ

فعظموني مثل تعظيمِ الملكْ

I exalted you when you were an oath [wording unclear];

Your greatness when you were swearing

so glorify Me as the angel does.

So they made me great like the glorification of a King.

تعظيمه منزَّه مقدَّس

تعظيمه منزَّه مقدَّس

من كلِّ ما يحدثه دور الفلكْ

من كلِّ ما يحدثه دور الفلكْ

His glorification is pure and holy,

His glorification is sanctified and holy

free from all that the celestial sphere's turning brings about.

From everything the orbit of stars brings about.

وما لمخلوقٍ به معرفةٌ

وما لمخلوقٍ به معرفةٌ

إلا إذا العبدُ إلى الله سَلَك

إلا إذا العبدُ إلى الله سَلَك

And no created being has knowledge of Him,

No creature has knowledge of Him

unless the servant journeys toward God.

Except when a servant travels towards God.

وكلُّ مَنْ يسلك نحوي قاصداً

وكلُّ مَنْ يسلك نحوي قاصداً

هو الذي سِرَّ الوجودِ قد ملك

هو الذي سِرَّ الوجودِ قد ملك

And whoever journeys toward Me with purpose—

And everyone who travels towards me with purpose

he is the one who has mastered the secret of existence.

Is the one who has mastered the secret of existence.

وما سواه ضل في مهلكةٍ

وما سواه ضل في مهلكةٍ

تاه بها منفرداً حتى هلك

تاه بها منفرداً حتى هلك

And anyone else strayed into a place of ruin;

And anything else has gone astray into ruin

he wandered there alone until he perished.

Lost in it alone until perishing.

قلت متى يشهدك الوصف الذي

قلت متى يشهدك الوصف الذي

تعلمه قال إذا الشمس دلك

تعلمه قال إذا الشمس دلك

I said: When will You be beheld by the attribute that

I said "When will the description that

You know? He said: When the sun declines.

You know bear witness to You?" He said, "When the sun rises."
