جلَّ الإله فما تُحصى معارفه

ولا عوارفُه ولا مواهبهْ

God's attributes can't be counted,

Nor His intimate knowledge or His gifts.

ولن يصاحبه من خلقه أحد

لكنه الله في المشروعِ صاحبه

None of His creations will accompany Him,

But He is the companion in righteous quests.

ومن يكون بهذا الوصفِ فارضَ به

رباً فإنك بالبرهانِ كاسبهْ

Whoever fits this description, accept Him

As Lord, for with proof you'll succeed.

واعلم بأنك مجبورٌ على خطر

في خرج مل أنت بالرحمنِ واهبه

Know you're compelled to take a risk

To earn the blessing of the Merciful.

فمن يوافقكم فأنت شاكره

ومن يخالفكم فما تطالبه

So whoever agrees with you, be thankful to them

And whoever opposes, make no demands of them,

لعلمكم أنه ما عنده خبر

فالله طالبه ما أنت طالبه

Since you know they have no knowledge.

It's God who seeks them, not you.

لولا الوجودُ ولولا سرُّ حكمته

ما كان لي أمل فيمن أصاحبه

Without existence and the secret of His wisdom,

I'd have no hope in those who accompany me.

إني خصيص لما أوليه من كرم

إني خسيسٌ لجانٍ إذ أعاقبه

I'm exclusive for the generosity I'm granted,

Yet I'm lowly towards the side that opposes me.

العفو أولى بنا إن كنتَ ذا كرمٍ

فإنني عارفٌ بمن أراقبه

Forgiveness suits us best if you are truly generous,

For I watch those whom I face.

الخلق من خلقٍ أشفتْ مكانته

ولا يجانبني إذا أجانبه

Creation sprang from a sublime place,

And won't abandon me if I abandon them,

لعلةٍ ولجهلٍ قامَ بي فأنا

للجهلِ في المنع أنسى إذ أعاتبه

For some reason or ignorance they opposed me,

But for ignorance in prevention I forget if I blame them.

فالله يغفر لي ما قد جنته يدي

مما يكون له مما أقاربه

So God forgives what my hands have sinned

Of what interacts with what's around it.

فالجهل غالبته والجهل من شيمي

وما يغالبني إذا أغالبه

Ignorance has overcome me and ignorance is my trait,

And nothing overcomes me if I overcome it.

إني عجبتُ لمن قد قال من عجبٍ

الله من كثرت فينا أعاجبه

I'm astonished by those who amazingly said,

“How abundant God's wonders are among us!”
