لعلمهbecause of His knowledge باعتقاديof my belief أنهthat He الذاكرُthe one who remembers
God knows that I do not remember Him,
God knows I do not mention Him
For He knows my belief that He is the one who remembers.
For He knows my belief that He is the Rememberer
فليسso none يذكرهremembers Him إلاexcept هوّيتهHis identity
والعبدُand the servant يحجبهاconceals it عنfrom عينهhis sight ساترُa veil
So none remembers Him but His own Self,
None remembers Him but His essence
And a veil conceals it from the servant's sight.
While the servant veils it from his eyes, the concealer
وقدand indeed علمتُI have learned بماof what فيin الدارِthe abode منof حرمsecluded women
مستراتveiled عنfrom الإدراكِperception بالناظرby the beholder
And I have learned of the secluded women within the abode,
And I knew what the abode contains of sanctuaries
Hidden from the beholder's perception.
Veiled from comprehension by the onlooker
الدارُthe abode دارُan abode of نعيمٍbliss لاno اكتراثَworry بهاin it
فإنْand if أضيفَis attributed إليهاto it فهوthen it is بالنادرin rare cases
The abode is an abode of bliss, with no worry in it;
The abode is an abode of bliss, with no concern for it
And if any is attributed to it, that is only rarely.
If attributed to it, then it is rare

For if they say that, it is for some purpose
Because if they say it for a purpose
Arising in souls, when no restrainer is present;
From the souls, if there is no deterrent

Or like what is said about the spring of beauty when
They made my sight ill with her languid gaze [wording unclear].
Its languid glance makes me sick in my eyes

My yearning, where I gain no share in her garden,
My yearning where I have no share of its paradise
Arises from suffering, which is the present cause of pain.
From anguish, and it is the present painful thing

لاnot الدارthe abode فاعلمso know بأنَّthat الحكمjudgment للخابرfor one who knows by experience
It is a person's constitution that gives him suffering,
For anguish gives the person his vigor
Not the abode; know, then, that judgment belongs to one who knows by experience.
Not the abode, so know the experienced is the judge

If the abode had [sorrows?], there would be no finding
If the abode had others, it would not find
Of its pleasures by souls whose joy is manifest.
For itself souls whose joy is apparent

By what brings this one bliss, another is tormented.
By what one is blissful with, another is tormented
By it I mean the witnessed cause, not the beholder.
I mean by it the witnessed cause, not the onlooker

So if you understand what we have said, you will affirm it;
So if you knew what we have said, speak with it
And if you are ignorant, you are the losing merchant.
And if ignorant, you are the losing trader
