At Your service—Your discerning one, among those who call in accord.

And all is You: You are the hearer and the caller.

So nothing from me answered You but Your own being.

You are the tongue, without disagreement, by common assent.

The reports concerning You are sound—what was uttered

in the accounts held by the attentive memorizer.

Whenever I remembered You within myself and in a gathering,

it was a cure for my pains.

What was confirmed in a report was not far removed from You.

I related it from the saying of the handspan and the armspan.

Indeed, I realized it through tasting and knowledge,

    without doubt or persuasive words.

The milk-giving beast of His herd poured milk upon my skin,

in every pasture; indeed, tending belongs to the shepherd.

Had I hoped to exist in myself apart from You,

my hopes would surely have failed me.

You are the tongue, and You are the foot with which I walk,

and I do not say that the speaker is the walker.

And You are my sight when I see through it,

and You are my hearing; graciously take hold of my ears,

with speech that brings me realization through what guides me to success [wording unclear].

And my followers do not catch up with me in understanding.

Good news in which I rejoice: I am among the foremost in Your dominion [wording unclear].

And neither my rebuking nor my restraining calms him.

Indeed, I behold You, and You bear witness for me,

to that, on the steadfast mountain and on the plain.

You are the All-Knowing, who apportioned qafiz-measures

of the intellects' grain—some a mudd, some a saʿ.

As for my affair, I obtained it at the time of its apportionment,

and I assigned it no share of my allotment.

Our allotments are the names of God; through them

comes salvation itself for my eyes and ears.

Nor did I move one foot toward what was not mine,

in a state of singleness, nor in a state of pairing.

For that reason, no books came concerning us

from Him, leading to restraint and suppression.

I dealt fairly with Him concerning that which came seeking us,

by the precedence already established, with haste.
