    قد أودعه به الروحُ الأمينُ

    And in the trustworthy mountain lay my Lord's right hand;

The trustworthy Spirit had deposited it there,

    Until Abraham came to build

At the House's site; the trustworthy one called to him:

In my keeping is a deposit, held for a time,

Purified, and called the right hand.

    فهذا السوقُ والثمن الثمينُ

    So take it, O friend of God, and you will profit;

For this is the market and the precious price.

And proclaim God's greatness, touch it, prostrate yourself, and kiss it,

So that your brow may shine from your prostration.

And say: This right hand is my Lord's right hand,

And I am love-distraught, lovesick, sorrowful.

He calls from the tiers of nearness: My servant,

Good fortune and abiding honor have come to you.

And the sacred sites and paths of striving have answered your call,

And the secure city proclaimed your merit.

    Lo, O exalted stone,

Your fresh, protected face has changed.

Your blackness comes from the dark core of every heart,

And your dryness comes from its hardness.

For your sake, the black of my eye means little to me,

When eyes begrudge their black pupils.
