Your favors are a raincloud pouring forth gold,

and your bounty is a sun no cloud can veil.

Your giving is pure, untainted by reminders of your favors,

and praise of you is truth, unblemished by falsehood.

When people's hands fall short of a virtue,

you reach its summit with both your far-reaching hands.

And if the people of this age entrusted their affairs

to you, they would surely find the conduct of the two Umars.

    وَقورٌ إِذا خَفَّت جِبالُ حُنَينِ

    Generous, while the clouds' hand is stingy with rain;

composed when the mountains of Hunayn grow light.

The envious scrutinized most of his qualities,

but seeking a blemish in them defeated them.

I sent a peerless pearl, while longing had carried

my heart away and shrouded it in rust.

And you adorned me with an everlasting jewel of bounty,

while what is made of gold and silver perishes.

As though separation, calling tears (damʿ), had clipped their final letter,

so no trace of the letter ʿayn answered there.
