O Time, woe to you! What has brought this change?
O Time, woe to you for what has passed and what began
You loosed the arrow of calamities, and it struck him dead.
You unleashed the arrows of events and aimed straight

You sheathed a sword whose edges were honed,
You unsheathed a sharp sword, its blades
that had been drawn for the sake of God.
Were once detached for the sake of God

So do what you will with all your might, for after
after al-Mu'azzam, care nothing for death.
The Almighty, I do not care about devastation

Oh misery of my life, how bitter and woeful

Alas for a full moon vanished into the soil
My longing for a full moon that set in the ground
of a grave, and an ocean interred within a tomb!
Of Rum and a sea in a dug grave

With a wounded liver and blinded eyes

a fire whose burning grows fiercer with tears.
A fire fueled by tears, burning

If there was a people of generosity and piety
could live on, he would have been immortal for all time.
It would last for eternity, immortalized

Or if rending one's collar could save from death,
Or ripping open pockets could save from the havoc
your father's sons would have rent their livers in grief for you.
That grieved your father’s children, distressing their livers

Or warding off the treacherous, attacking army
those of al-Khatt—they would have left the shafts shattered.
That betrayed the Washi clan, targeting them

Many desired to be cavaliers

From the noble Ayyubid family, sacrificing themselves

You made even a coat of mail and a spirited mare weep,
You wept until spotty and dusty
and saddened even a slender lance and an Indian sword.
And grieved until feeble and exhausted

Guarding the bastion of Islam as its champion
with resolves that deem the distant near.
With resolve that seeks the improbable

And for many an anxious one who called on him for a monumental event
so grave, and his answer came before the echo.
His reply preceded the echo

but he became his guide back to it.
Except a guide to it was appointed for him

You mounted the rings of brown horses that

Shortened their gait after the blond chestnut ones

of Islam's domain, it would have returned to its first state.
Of the Islamic state, it would revert as it began

In aiding it, tyranny would take hold there

You dispelled from it the night of disbelief so it folded

And illuminated its plains with the dawn of guidance
