سَواءٌ عَلَينا نلتَ ما نلتَ مِن عُلاً

سَواءٌ عَلَينا نلتَ ما نلتَ مِن عُلاً

إِذا لَم تُنل أَو كُنتَ ما كُنتَ مِن قَبلُ

إِذا لَم تُنل أَو كُنتَ ما كُنتَ مِن قَبلُ

It is all the same to us whether you have attained whatever heights you have attained—

if you bestow nothing—or have remained as you were before.

وَما نافِعي أَن يَبلُغَ العَرشَ صاحِبي

وَما نافِعي أَن يَبلُغَ العَرشَ صاحِبي

وَيَنحَطَّ قَدري في الثَرى مِثلَ ما يَعلو

وَيَنحَطَّ قَدري في الثَرى مِثلَ ما يَعلو

And what good is it to me that my companion should reach the throne,

while my standing sinks into the dust in proportion to his rise?
