هَجَوتُI lampooned الأَكابِرَthe grandees فيin جِلَّقٍJillaq
هَجَوتُ الأَكابِرَ في جِلَّقٍ
وَرُعتُand I frightened الوَضيعَthe lowly بِهَجوِby lampooning الرَفيعِthe exalted
وَرُعتُ الوَضيعَ بِهَجوِ الرَفيعِ
I lampooned the great men in Jilliq—Damascus—
I lampooned the grandees in Jillaq,
and struck fear into the lowly by lampooning the eminent.

وَأُخرِجتُand I was expelled مِنهاfrom it وَلكِنَّنيand yet I
