وَرَأَت طَبيعَتُكَ الكَريمَةُ نقضَ ما

وَرَأَت طَبيعَتُكَ الكَريمَةُ نقضَ ما

عَوَّدتَها مِن شيمَةِ الإِسرافِ

عَوَّدتَها مِن شيمَةِ الإِسرافِ

And your generous nature saw a breach of what

Your generous nature saw the undoing of what

you had accustomed it to—the habit of lavishness.

It was accustomed to from the trait of extravagance

فَكَأَنَّما أَنفَت لِذاكَ فَعَوَّضَت

فَكَأَنَّما أَنفَت لِذاكَ فَعَوَّضَت

عَن بَزلِ قيفالٍ بِبَزلِ رُعافِ

So, as though offended by that, it compensated

So it seemed as though it recoiled from that and compensated

for bloodletting from the cephalic vein with bleeding from the nose.
