وَحاجَةٍand a need ظلتُI kept أَشكوهاcomplaining of it إِلىto عُمَرٍUmar
وَقَدand already تَرَقرَقَwelled up دَمعُtears العَينِof the eye يَنحَدِرُstreaming down
And I kept complaining to Umar of a need,
while tears welled in my eyes and streamed down.
فَقالَthen said ذوa man of فِطنَةٍdiscernment نَبَّهawaken لَهاto it عَمَراًUmar
فَقُلتُthen I said واخَيبَتيalas for my disappointment! إِنif لَمnot يَنَمsleep عُمَرُUmar
Then a shrewd man said, “Awaken Umar to it.”
Then I said, “Alas for me if Umar does not sleep!”
