وَلَيلٍ كَوَجهِ الزاغِ بَرداً وَظُلمَةً

وَلَيلٍ كَوَجهِ الزاغِ بَرداً وَظُلمَةً

وَطولاً كَقرني يونسٍ وَأَبي خَضرِ

وَطولاً كَقرني يونسٍ وَأَبي خَضرِ

And a night like the crow’s face in coldness and darkness,

And a night as cold and dark as a raven's face

and in length like the horns of Yunus and Abu Khadr:

As long as the horns of Jonah and Abu Khadr

عَدِمتُ الكَرى فيهِ وَطولَ هُجودِهِ

عَدِمتُ الكَرى فيهِ وَطولَ هُجودِهِ

كَما عَدمَ العَقل البَها بنُ أَبي اليُسرِ

كَما عَدمَ العَقل البَها بنُ أَبي اليُسرِ

I was deprived of sleep in it, and of its long slumber,

I missed my loved ones in its length and gloom

just as al-Baha ibn Abi al-Yusr was deprived of reason.

As sanity was missed by Baha bin Abu Yusr
