وَبَدا فَشاعَ كَما اِستَكَن
Suppose what I conceal has become public,
My secrets are revealed, no longer concealed
and emerged and spread, just as it had lain hidden.
Spreading wide, no longer hidden

إِلَّا المَماتُ أَوِ الحَزَن
Is there between that and this
Is there between this and that
anything but death or sorrow?
Anything but death or sorrow?

وَاِرفِق فديتُك بي وَلَن
Do not let my passion vex you;
Do not let my passion weary you
and be gentle with me—may I be your ransom—and be tender.
Be gentle with me, my love, and be kind

For I have granted you a place
For I have given you a place
in my heart, beyond all price.
In my heart that has no price

As for me, I must die,
As for me, to die yet not die lightly
and not be abased; so do not be abased.
So do not lose heart or faith
جازَتhave traversed هَواكَlove of you جَوانِحيmy ribs
جازَت هَواكَ جَوانِحي

فَنَطَقنَ فيكَ بِما أُجَن
My ribs have traversed love of you,
Your love has seized my soul
so they spoke of you, voicing what I conceal.
And it speaks of you, though I resist

If you do not see me speaking
Unless you see me speaking
of you in love till the end of time,
Of this love until the end of time

then shelter me—may I be your ransom—from a love
So protect me, my darling, from a passion
that has lain hidden beneath my ribs.
Deeper than the soul, lying in wait
