تَجَلَّدتُ في حُبِّي وَما بي قُوَّةٌ

تَجَلَّدتُ في حُبِّي وَما بي قُوَّةٌ

وَلي زَفَراتٌ شاهِداتٌ عَلى عِشقي

وَلي زَفَراتٌ شاهِداتٌ عَلى عِشقي

I have feigned fortitude in my love, though I have no strength.

I endured in my love, though I've no strength,

And I have sighs that bear witness to my passion.

And my sighs bear witness to my passion.

وَإِنِّي لَأَنوي الشَّيءَ مِن غَيرِ عِلمِها

وَإِنِّي لَأَنوي الشَّيءَ مِن غَيرِ عِلمِها

فَيَعرِفُهُ غَيري وَلَم يَجرِ في نُطقي

فَيَعرِفُهُ غَيري وَلَم يَجرِ في نُطقي

And indeed I intend something without her knowing,

Though I intend a thing without her knowing,

so someone else knows it, though I have not uttered it.

Others guess it, but no word escapes my lips.

كَأَنَّ عُيونَ العالِمينَ مُطِلَّةٌ

كَأَنَّ عُيونَ العالِمينَ مُطِلَّةٌ

عَلَيَّ فَما يَخفى هَواكِ عَلى خَلقِ

عَلَيَّ فَما يَخفى هَواكِ عَلى خَلقِ

As though the eyes of those who know were peering down

As if the eyes of all the world were fixed

upon me, so my love for you is hidden from no one.

Upon me, so my love for you none can conceal.

تَجَنَّى عَلَيَّ الذَّنبَ وَهيَ مُسيئَةٌ

تَجَنَّى عَلَيَّ الذَّنبَ وَهيَ مُسيئَةٌ

فأوثرها بِالصِّدقِ فيهِ عَلى صِدقي

فأوثرها بِالصِّدقِ فيهِ عَلى صِدقي

She falsely accuses me of wrongdoing, though she herself is at fault,

She blames me though she is the one at fault;

so I accept her word on this as true rather than my own truthful word.

So I prefer her truthfulness to my own truth.
