يُغالى بِهِ إِن ضَنَّ بِالعِلقِ بايِعُه
I found you easygoing in selling; a precious thing is only
I saw you generous in sale and barter; only
priced highly if its seller is reluctant to part with it.
He who is stingy with his goods makes profit by them.

And how fitting that one whose goods are held cheap
And he loses who shows contempt for the small price
at sale should one day find his wares unsold!
His merchandise fetches, one day, in the market.

وَيُفسِدُهُ أَن تُستَباحَ شَرائِعُه
It is water: if you let it rest, drinking from it is sweet,
Water is sweetest when you stint your use of it,
and it is spoiled when its watering places are open to all.
But too free use makes even sweet water bitter.
