هَل أَنَت صاح أَو مُراجِعُ صَبوَةٍ

هَل أَنَت صاح أَو مُراجِعُ صَبوَةٍ

أَم أَنتَ فيما بَينَ ذاكَ تُفَكِّرُ

أَم أَنتَ فيما بَينَ ذاكَ تُفَكِّرُ

Are you sober, or returning to youthful passion?

Are you an impetuous youth or one who ponders your reckless days?

Or are you pondering somewhere between the two?

Or are you, between the two, lost in thought?

لا بَل أَظُنُّكَ قَد جَنحتَ إِلى الصّبا

لا بَل أَظُنُّكَ قَد جَنحتَ إِلى الصّبا

وَإِذا صَبَوتَ فَلَيسَ مِثلُكَ يُعذَرُ

وَإِذا صَبَوتَ فَلَيسَ مِثلُكَ يُعذَرُ

No, rather, I think you have inclined toward passion;

No, I suspect you have inclined towards impetuousness,

and when you yield to passion, one like you is not excused.

And when you are reckless, none can excuse you.

إِنِّي حَدَستُ وَقَد نَظَرتُ بِفِكرَةٍ

إِنِّي حَدَستُ وَقَد نَظَرتُ بِفِكرَةٍ

وَلَعَلَّ ما أخطي إِذا ما أَنظُرُ

وَلَعَلَّ ما أخطي إِذا ما أَنظُرُ

Indeed, I have surmised, having considered thoughtfully,

I sensed it and looked with an idea,

and perhaps I do not err when I reflect.

And perhaps I err when I look.
