When Lulu transgressed, they made him drink the wine

When Lulu was wronged, they gave him to drink

of torment’s cup—a draught bitter as colocynth.

A cup of torment, though bitter the drink.

وبالسياطِ ثقَّبوا جلدَهُ

وبالسياطِ ثقَّبوا جلدَهُ

تباً لهُ مِنْ لؤلؤٍ مثقوبِ

تباً لهُ مِنْ لؤلؤٍ مثقوبِ

And with whips they pierced his skin.

With whips they did pierce through his skin

Damn him—that pierced pearl!

Woe to him, a pearl now pierced through.
