فالوجهُ منها طابعُ الأقمارِ
And an exquisite woman: if she is not the forenoon sun,
then her face is the mold of moons.

and severed my ties with them; my resolve stood firm.

ليسَ الخنا مِنْ شيمةِ الأحرارِ
Not from ignorance of beauty, but because
lewdness is no trait of noble souls.

By God, if the noble and their age returned
by chance, and the reign of the good returned,

I would disdain praising them for gain:
earning through praises is a robe of abasement.

Should I be counted among those who seek them, seeking what
perishes, while the blot on one's reputation remains?
