هلكوا همُ وديارُهم في لحظةٍ
فكأنهمso, as though they كانواwere علىat ميعادِan appointed rendezvous
فكأنهم كانوا على ميعادِ
They and their homes perished in an instant,
They perished, and their homes in but a moment -
as though they had an appointed rendezvous.
As though to meet their ruin they were bent!
نبشواthey were unearthed وأوجُهُهمand their faces تضيءُshine منfrom الثرىthe soil
نبشوا وأوجُهُهم تضيءُ من الثرى
مثلَlike السيوفِthe swords منَfrom الأغمادِthe scabbards
مثلَ السيوفِ منَ الأغمادِ
They were unearthed, their faces shining from the soil,
Their faces shining from the grave's dark night
like swords from their scabbards.
Like swords unsheathed, with glory's glint thus dight!
