قالتْ أَقِلْني الوصالَ للهْ

The old man said to her, “Be intimate with me.”

She said, “Spare me intimacy, for God's sake.

ما يطلعُ البدرُ في نهارٍ

ما يطلعُ البدرُ في نهارٍ

وطاقتي ما تحبُّ سلَّهْ

وطاقتي ما تحبُّ سلَّهْ

The full moon does not rise by day,

and my window has no liking for a basket.”
