البردُthe cold قدْindeed ولَّىhas departed فماso what لكَwith you راقداًasleep
البردُ قدْ ولَّى فما لكَ راقداً
ياO أيُّهاyou المدثرُthe cloaked one المزَّمِلُthe bundled-up one
يا أيُّها المدثرُ المزَّمِلُ
The cold has passed—why are you asleep,
The cold has gone, so why do you still slumber
O you cloaked and bundled up?
O covered one, O wrapped in your cloak,
أوand (interrogative) ماnot ترىyou see وجهَthe face of الربيعِspring وحسنَهُand its beauty
أو ما ترى وجهَ الربيعِ وحسنَهُ
والروضَand the garden يضحكُlaughs والحياand the rain يتهللُbeams with joy
والروضَ يضحكُ والحيا يتهللُ
And do you not see spring’s face and its beauty,
Do you not see the face of spring in its beauty?
and the garden laughing and the rain beaming with joy?
The meadow laughs and the serpent hisses
