بكتِ المجالسُ والمدارسُ جملةً

لكَ يا بنَ جملةَ حينَ فاجأكَ الردى

لكَ يا بنَ جملةَ حينَ فاجأكَ الردى

The assemblies and schools all wept

The gatherings and schools wept altogether

for you, O Ibn Jumla, when death took you by surprise.

For you, O son of Jamila, when fate surprised you

فاصعدْ إلى درجِ العلى واسعدْ فمَنْ

فاصعدْ إلى درجِ العلى واسعدْ فمَنْ

خدمَ العلومَ جزاؤُهُ أنْ يصعدا

خدمَ العلومَ جزاؤُهُ أنْ يصعدا

So ascend the steps of eminence and rejoice, for whoever

So ascend to the highest rank and be joyous, for he who

has served the sciences is rewarded with ascent.

Served knowledge, his reward is to ascend
