  1. تنكَّرَ تنكزّ بدمشقَ تيهاً

    فقاسوا منهُ أنواعَ العذابِ

    Tankiz turned hostile in Damascus out of arrogance,

    so they suffered all kinds of torment at his hands.

  2. وقالوا للضفادع ألفُ بشرى

    بميتتِهِ فقلتُ وللكلابِ

    And they said, “A thousand glad tidings to the frogs

    at his death!” I said, “And to the dogs!”
