يعيبُfind fault with شعريَmy poetry أقوامٌsome people وأعذرُهُمْand I excuse them
يعيبُ شعريَ أقوامٌ وأعذرُهُمْ
فإنَّfor indeed شعريَmy poetry ورديَّrose-like وهمْand they جعلُdung beetles
فإنَّ شعريَ ورديَّ وهمْ جعلُ
Some people find fault with my poetry, and I excuse them.
For my poetry is rose-like, and they are dung beetles.
شعريmy poetry وإنْand although كانَit is سهلاًeasy فَهْوَyet it is ذوpossessing ثقلٍweight
شعري وإنْ كانَ سهلاً فَهْوَ ذو ثقلٍ
علىupon حسوديَmy envier فَهْوَso it is السهلُthe plain والجبلُand the mountain
على حسوديَ فَهْوَ السهلُ والجبلُ
My poetry, though easy, weighs heavily
Upon my envier: it is both plain and mountain.
