قلتُ إنَّ المالَ للشيبِ دوا

She disapproved of my gray hair, so turned away and withdrew.

She denied my gray hair so I turned away

I said, “Indeed, money is a remedy for gray hair.”

قالتِ اسكتْ إنما الشيبُ عمى

قالتِ اسكتْ إنما الشيبُ عمى

فبياضُ العينِ والشيبُ سوا

فبياضُ العينِ والشيبُ سوا

She said, “Be quiet! Gray hair is nothing but blindness,

She said: Hush! Gray hair is but blindness

for the whiteness of the eye and gray hair are alike.”
