يا نفسُ قدْ آنَ أنْ تجدِّي

فلا تقولي الرحيلُ مبهمْ

O soul, the time has come for you to be earnest.

O soul, it is time to get serious,

So do not say, “The departure is unclear.”

So cease saying: The road ahead is vague.

فشيبُ رأسي وعيبُ نفسي

فشيبُ رأسي وعيبُ نفسي

أُسْرِجُ هذا وذاكَ ألجمْ

أُسْرِجُ هذا وذاكَ ألجمْ

For the gray hair of my head and the flaw in my soul—

For my greying hair and blemished soul,

I saddle this and bridle that.

I shall bridle them both, and be stoic and brave.
