بأبيwith my father as ransom مخيِّلَةٌa beguiling woman إذاwhen رقصتْshe danced
بأبي مخيِّلَةٌ إذا رقصتْ
رَقَصَdanced الفؤادُthe heart ونقَّطَand fell in drops الدمعُthe tears
رَقَصَ الفؤادُ ونقَّطَ الدمعُ
May my father be her ransom—a proud beauty when she dances:
May my father be ransom for that beguiling woman! When she dances,
The heart dances, and tears fall drop after drop.
The heart dances, and tears fall drop by drop.
رَفَعَتْshe lifted نقابَthe veil of الحسنِbeauty ثمthen شَدَتْshe sang
رَفَعَتْ نقابَ الحسنِ ثم شَدَتْ
فافتنَّso reveled فيهاin her الطرفُthe eye والسمعُand hearing
فافتنَّ فيها الطرفُ والسمعُ
She raises beauty’s veil, and then she sings;
She lifted beauty’s veil, then sang,
And eye and ear alike are captivated by her.
And eye and ear reveled in her.
