خالطْ أولي العلمِ تكنْ عالماً

خالطْ أولي العلمِ تكنْ عالماً

فربُّنا قَدْ رفعَ الوَحْيَا

فربُّنا قَدْ رفعَ الوَحْيَا

Keep company with the learned, and you will become a scholar.

Associate with the learned, you will be learned

For our Lord has indeed withdrawn revelation.

For our Lord has raised the cheeks

واقتدِ بالموتى على أنَّهُ

واقتدِ بالموتى على أنَّهُ

لا بدَّ للحيِّ من الأحْيا

لا بدَّ للحيِّ من الأحْيا

And follow the example of the dead, though

And follow the dead as if

a living person cannot do without the living.

The living must meet the departed
