أفي الرأيِ يُشْبَهُ أمْ في السخا
ءِcompletes “generosity” أمْor فيin الشجاعةِcourage أمْor فيin الأدبْrefinement
ءِ أمْ في الشجاعةِ أمْ في الأدبْ
Is he equaled in judgment, or in generosity,
In opinion, is he alike, or in generosity, or in courage, or in manners?
Or in courage, or in refinement?
We see not after him a match for him,
فلسناfor we do not نرىwe see بعدَهُafter him مثلَهُhis like
فلسنا نرى بعدَهُ مثلَهُ
فياso, oh ليتَهُwould that he ماnot تولىhe governed حلبْAleppo
فيا ليتَهُ ما تولى حلبْ
For after him we see none like him.
Oh would that he had not assumed Aleppo's rule!
Oh, would that he had never governed Aleppo!
