If you wish to remember in your time a great man,
yet humble, begin by mentioning al-Qunawi.
Start with El Gounawi, so humble was he.

وَلِيَ القضاءَ وصارَ شيخَ شيوخِهِمْ

He assumed the judgeship and became the master of their masters,
He assumed authority as judge supreme,
and his heart was inwardly devoted to Sufism.

زادوهُ تعظيماً فزادَ تواضعاً
اللهُGod أكبرُis greatest هكذاsuch is البشرُthe human being السويupright
اللهُ أكبرُ هكذا البشرُ السوي
They honored him more, and he grew more humble.
The more he was honored, the more humble he became.
God is greatest! Such is the upright human being.
God is most great - such are people of worth.
