لنظمِكَ كلَّ سهلٍ ذي امتناعِ

If you wish to compose poetry, choose

If you love to compose poetry, then choose

For your verse, all that is simple yet hard to imitate.

For your composition whatever is easy yet lofty.

ولا تكثرْ مجانسةً ومكِّنْ

ولا تكثرْ مجانسةً ومكِّنْ

قوافيَهُ وكِلْهُ إلى الطباعِ

قوافيَهُ وكِلْهُ إلى الطباعِ

And do not overuse wordplay, and firmly establish

Do not overuse end rhymes, but rather

Its rhymes, and entrust it to natural talent.

Make the rhymes and leave the rest to natural talent.
