إذا ما تعاصى مَنْ تحبُّ لقاءَهُ

إذا ما تعاصى مَنْ تحبُّ لقاءَهُ

عنِ الوصلِ واستولى عليهِ التَّغيُّرُ

عنِ الوصلِ واستولى عليهِ التَّغيُّرُ

If the one you love to meet stubbornly holds back

If the one whose company you love

from closeness, and a change comes over him,

Turns from intimacy and is overtaken by change,

فأرسلْ لهُ الدينارَ فهْوَ طبيبُهُ

فأرسلْ لهُ الدينارَ فهْوَ طبيبُهُ

ومِنْ عجبِ الدنيا طبيبٌ مصفَّرُ

ومِنْ عجبِ الدنيا طبيبٌ مصفَّرُ

then send him a dinar, for it is his physician;

Send him a gold coin, for it is his remedy,

and among the world's wonders is a yellow-hued physician.

And it is the wonder of this world that a healer should be yellow.
