تعشقتُهُ لَدْنَ القوامِ مهفهفاً

شهيَّ اللمى أحوى المراشفِ أشنبا

شهيَّ اللمى أحوى المراشفِ أشنبا

I fell in love with him, supple of figure and slender-waisted,

I loved him slender as a lance, bedding down

With alluring dusky lips, dark lip-edges, and cool, gleaming teeth.

On lavish covers, pillowed soft and warm

وقالوا بدا حبُّ الشبابِ بوجهِهِ

وقالوا بدا حبُّ الشبابِ بوجهِهِ

فيا حسنَهُ وجهاً إليَّ مُحببا

فيا حسنَهُ وجهاً إليَّ مُحببا

And they said, “Youth’s pimples have appeared on his face.”

They whispered, "He is fair," and I replied,

So how lovely he is—a face so dear to me!

"Turn that fair face to me, beloved form!"
