  1. قالْ حكتْ قامتُها صعدةً

    فقلتُ لِمْ تَجْرَحُ تعديلَها

    He said, “Her stature resembled a straight spear.”

    So I said, “Why wound her uprightness?”

  2. قال فقل ريقتها شهدةٌ

    قلت فكم تقصدُ تعسيلها

    He said, “Then say: her saliva is honeycomb.”

    I said, “Then how much do you intend to sweeten her?”
