تجنَّبْavoid أصدقاءَكَyour friends أوor تغافَلْdeliberately overlook faults
تجنَّبْ أصدقاءَكَ أو تغافَلْ
لهمْtoward them تظفرْyou will win بودهمُwith their affection المبينِevident
لهمْ تظفرْ بودهمُ المبينِ
Avoid your friends, or be indulgent
toward them, and you will win their evident affection.
وإنْand if يتكدّرواthey grow troubled يوماًone day فَعُذْراًthen grant pardon
وإنْ يتكدّروا يوماً فَعُذْراً
فإنَّfor indeed القومَthese people منْfrom ماءٍwater وطينِand clay
فإنَّ القومَ منْ ماءٍ وطينِ
And if one day they grow troubled, then pardon them,
for these people are made of water and clay.
