وزاجلٍand a courier أبهىfairer منَthan الهلالِthe crescent moon
وزاجلٍ أبهى منَ الهلالِ
أنشأهُraised him الواليthe governor علىwith الدلالِindulgence
أنشأهُ الوالي على الدلالِ
And a courier, fairer than the crescent moon,
whom the governor raised with indulgence.
ماnot تستحيyou feel ashamed عنْbefore مثلِthe like of ذاthis الغزالِgazelle
ما تستحي عنْ مثلِ ذا الغزالِ
تقولُyou say قدْindeed جاءَhas come غلامُthe boy of الواليthe governor
تقولُ قدْ جاءَ غلامُ الوالي
Have you no shame before a gazelle like this,
saying, 'The governor’s boy has come'?
