دعاني بعدَكُمْ قومٌ وقالوا

دعاني بعدَكُمْ قومٌ وقالوا

ليَهْنِكَ شهرةً في العالمينا

ليَهْنِكَ شهرةً في العالمينا

After you, some people summoned me and said:

After you, people called me and said:

May fame among all peoples bring you joy!

Renounce him, so you may thrive in both worlds!

أتحلفُ لا تنوبُ لمنْ سواهُ

أتحلفُ لا تنوبُ لمنْ سواهُ

فقلتُ نعمْ وغلَّظْتُ اليمينا

فقلتُ نعمْ وغلَّظْتُ اليمينا

Do you swear not to act as deputy for anyone but him?

I swore I will never abandon him for another -

So I said, 'Yes,' and made my oath solemn.

Yes, I swore a solemn oath.

أروني مثلَهُ لأنوبَ عنهُ

أروني مثلَهُ لأنوبَ عنهُ

فإني قَدْ عدمْتُ لهُ القرينا

فإني قَدْ عدمْتُ لهُ القرينا

Show me his equal, that I may act as deputy for him;

Show me his equal and I will turn from him,

for I have found no peer for him.

For I cannot find his peer.

إمامٌ عندَهُ للفضلِ سوقٌ

إمامٌ عندَهُ للفضلِ سوقٌ

أرى فرضاً محبتَهُ ودينا

أرى فرضاً محبتَهُ ودينا

An imam with whom merit has a market;

A leader in virtue and excellence,

I deem love for him a duty and a matter of faith.

Loving him is a duty and faith.

وما وحدي فُجعْتُ بهِ ولكنْ

وما وحدي فُجعْتُ بهِ ولكنْ

لقدْ عمَّ البريَّةَ أجمعينا

لقدْ عمَّ البريَّةَ أجمعينا

And I was not alone in grieving over him; rather,

It was not I alone who grieved for him,

it has indeed encompassed all creation.

But the whole world lamented the loss.

تملَّيْنا بأنعمِهِ زمانا

تملَّيْنا بأنعمِهِ زمانا

وعشْنا في مكارمِهِ سنينا

وعشْنا في مكارمِهِ سنينا

We delighted in his favors for a time,

We enjoyed his generosity for years,

and lived amid his bounty for years.

And lived in the grace of his nobility.

أعادَ اللهُ دولتَهُ قريباً

أعادَ اللهُ دولتَهُ قريباً

وجازاهُ جزاءَ المحسنينا

وجازاهُ جزاءَ المحسنينا

May God soon restore his power,

May God soon restore his rule,

and grant him the reward of those who do good.

And reward him as one who did good.
