    You arrived as rain arrives in a drought-stricken land,

    Under an auspicious omen, with ample welcome and ease.

    I swear by Him before whose face all faces bow—

    Those of the old man, the cloth-wrapped child, and the middle-aged man.

    Indeed, a joy has arisen within me at meeting you,

    Making me forget my delight in gray hair and family.

    وَتَقْرِيرِيَ الْمَعْلُومَ ضَرْبٌ مِنَ الْجَهْلِ

    And my affection needs no witness;

    And my affirming what is already known is a kind of ignorance.
