When you travel, light travels wherever you turn.

As though you were a full moon, and the lands its celestial mansions.

God be with you—what a full moon on the horizon of glory,

shining, and a sea surging with bounty.

You inspected the condition of the frontier strongholds with an intention

that rises toward the gates of acceptance.

And you calmed them by your nearness; they had never ceased

to wander lovesick before that and grow restless.

    فمَنْظَرُها بعْدَ العُبوسِ بَهيجُ

    I passed by afterward, as promised, along with the rain;

so their appearance, after frowning, is delightful.

How many a hillock has had its crown garlanded by blossoms,

and a tapestry of greenery fluttered over it.

And no upland is anything but a meadow and a garden,

and no lowland anything but a brook and a channel.

O Yusuf, live on for the faith, protecting its honor,

when intractable calamity makes its entry,

with true-hearted young men: if the night of misfortune darkens,

then they are lamps whose horizons are saddles.

May you remain, your eyes at peace, as long as the sun rises,

and as long as pilgrims circle the Ancient House.
