أدَرْنا وضَوْءُ الأفْقِ قدْ صَدَعَ الفَضَا

أدَرْنا وضَوْءُ الأفْقِ قدْ صَدَعَ الفَضَا

مُدامَةَ عَتْبٍ بَيْنَنا نَقْلُها الرِّضَى

مُدامَةَ عَتْبٍ بَيْنَنا نَقْلُها الرِّضَى

We passed around, as the horizon’s light had cleft the expanse,

a wine of reproach between us, contentment its relish.

فَلِلّهِ عَيْنا مَنْ رَآنا ولِلْحَيا

فَلِلّهِ عَيْنا مَنْ رَآنا ولِلْحَيا

حَبِيٌّ بآفَاقِ البَشاشَةِ أوْمَضا

حَبِيٌّ بآفَاقِ البَشاشَةِ أوْمَضا

God bless the eyes of whoever saw us, while the rain’s

bank of cloud flashed across the horizons of gladness.

نَفِرُّ الى عَدْلِ الزّمَانِ الّذي أتَى

نَفِرُّ الى عَدْلِ الزّمَانِ الّذي أتَى

ونَبْرَأَ مِنْ جَوْرِ الزّمانِ الّذي مَضى

ونَبْرَأَ مِنْ جَوْرِ الزّمانِ الّذي مَضى

We flee to the justice of the age that has come,

and recover from the injustice of the age that has passed.

ونأْسُو كُلومَ اللّفْضِ باللّفْضِ عاجِلاً

ونأْسُو كُلومَ اللّفْضِ باللّفْضِ عاجِلاً

كَذا قدَحُ الصّهْباءِ دَاوَى وأمْرَضا

كَذا قدَحُ الصّهْباءِ دَاوَى وأمْرَضا

And we swiftly heal the wounds of speech with speech;

so too the cup of tawny wine both healed and caused sickness.
