تَخالَفَdiffered جنْسُkind الشّوْقِlonging والحُكْمُand the governing principle واحِدٌone
تَخالَفَ جنْسُ الشّوْقِ والحُكْمُ واحِدٌ
وكلُّand every مُحِبٍّlover فيin الكَمالِperfection ومُشْتاقُand one who longs
وكلُّ مُحِبٍّ في الكَمالِ ومُشْتاقُ
The kinds of longing differ, yet their governing principle is one.
And every lover seeks perfection and yearns for it.
فمَعْنَىso the meaning of اشْتِياقِlonging الأرْضِthe earth للغَيْثِfor the rain حاجَةٌneed
فمَعْنَى اشْتِياقِ الأرْضِ للغَيْثِ حاجَةٌ
ومَعْنىand the meaning of اشْتِياقِlonging الغيْثِthe rain للأرْضِfor the earth إشْفاقُcompassion
ومَعْنى اشْتِياقِ الغيْثِ للأرْضِ إشْفاقُ
The earth’s longing for rain means need,
And rain’s longing for the earth means compassion.
