شُغِلْتُ بيوْمِ العرْضِ عمّنْ وسيلَتي

شُغِلْتُ بيوْمِ العرْضِ عمّنْ وسيلَتي

الى اللّهِ يوْمَ العرْضِ رحْمَةُ جدِّهِ

الى اللّهِ يوْمَ العرْضِ رحْمَةُ جدِّهِ

The Day of Presentation distracted me from him; my means

I was preoccupied with the Day of Reckoning from the one whose means I was

Of approach to God on the Day of Presentation is his grandfather’s mercy.

To Allah on the Day of Reckoning is the mercy of his grandfather

وإنْ كُنْتُ قد قصّرْتُ في فرْضِ برِّهِ

وإنْ كُنْتُ قد قصّرْتُ في فرْضِ برِّهِ

فوَاللهِ ما قصّرْتُ في رَعْيِ عهْدِهِ

فوَاللهِ ما قصّرْتُ في رَعْيِ عهْدِهِ

And even if I have fallen short in my duty to honor him,

And if I was remiss in fulfilling the duty of his righteousness

Still, by God, I have not fallen short in keeping his covenant.

By Allah, I was not remiss in tending to his covenant

ولا جهِلَتْ نفْسي أياديَ التي

ولا جهِلَتْ نفْسي أياديَ التي

جعلْتُ لِساني بعْدَها رهْنَ حَمْدِهِ

جعلْتُ لِساني بعْدَها رهْنَ حَمْدِهِ

Nor has my soul been unaware of the favors for which

Nor was I unaware of the favors which

I thereafter pledged my tongue to his praise.

I made my tongue after them hostage to his praise

وإنْ ضاقَ وُسْعي عنْ قِيامي ببَعْضِها

وإنْ ضاقَ وُسْعي عنْ قِيامي ببَعْضِها

فَما ضاقَ عنْ عُذْرٍ لَها وُسْعُ مَجْدِهِ

فَما ضاقَ عنْ عُذْرٍ لَها وُسْعُ مَجْدِهِ

And even if my capacity has fallen short of repaying some of them,

And if my capacity was too narrow to fulfill some of them

The breadth of his nobility has not fallen short of excusing that failure.

Still the expanse of his glory was not too narrow for excuses for it
