ياO مَنْone who أدارَpassed around منof الصّبابةِlonging بَيْنَناamong us

O you who passed among us, out of longing,
a cup whose fragrance gives away the musk,
وأتَىand brought برَيْحانِthe basil of الحَديثِconversation فكلّماso whenever

and brought the basil of conversation—whenever
the companion offered his wine, you greeted him.
أناI لاdo not أهيمُlose myself بذِكْرِin remembering مَنْone who قتَلَkilled الهَوىlove
لكِنْbut أهيمُI lose myself بذِكْرِin remembering مَنْone who أحْياهُbrought it to life
I do not lose myself in remembering one who killed love;
instead, I lose myself in remembering one who brought it to life.
