O you who draw carnelian treasure from the corners of my eyes,

I beg you, by the All-Merciful [reading uncertain], to spare my remaining breath.

For my strength has grown too weak to bear my patience

with you, and my collars have grown too tight for my sighs.

I go mad when darkness falls; I have none

to heal me with charms but the gentle breeze of dawn.

And often I have sought an amulet's aid in this,

Then the scribe of my eye-corners stained it saffron with tears.
