أَيَحْيَى سَقَى حَيْثُ لُحْتَ الْحَيَا

أَيَحْيَى سَقَى حَيْثُ لُحْتَ الْحَيَا

فَنِعْمَ الشِّعَابُ وَنِعْمَ الْوُكُونْ

فَنِعْمَ الشِّعَابُ وَنِعْمَ الْوُكُونْ

O Yahya, may the rain water the place where you shone!

O Yahya, you gave drink where life was revived,

How fine, then, are the ravines, and how fine the nests!

So excellent is the valley and excellent are the dwellings.

وَحَيَّ يَرَاعُكَ مِنْ آيَةٍ

وَحَيَّ يَرَاعُكَ مِنْ آيَةٍ

فَقَدْ حَرَّكَ الْقَوْمَ بَعْدَ السُّكُونْ

فَقَدْ حَرَّكَ الْقَوْمَ بَعْدَ السُّكُونْ

And long live your reed pen—what a wondrous sign!

And the signs that watch over you,

For it has stirred the people after stillness.

Stirred the people after stillness.

دَعَوْتَ لِخِدْمَةِ مُوسَى عَصَاهُ

دَعَوْتَ لِخِدْمَةِ مُوسَى عَصَاهُ

فَجَاءَتْ تَلقَّفُ مَا يَأَفِكُونْ

فَجَاءَتْ تَلقَّفُ مَا يَأَفِكُونْ

You summoned Musa’s staff to serve him.

You called to serve Moses his staff,

So it came, swallowing what they fabricate.

It came to take what they untie.

فَأَذْعَنَ مَنْ يَدَّعِي السِّحْرَ رَغْماً

فَأَذْعَنَ مَنْ يَدَّعِي السِّحْرَ رَغْماً

وَأَسْلَمَ من أَجْلِهَا المُشْرِكُونَ

وَأَسْلَمَ من أَجْلِهَا المُشْرِكُونَ

So whoever laid claim to sorcery submitted unwillingly.

So he who claims sorcery submitted unwillingly,

And because of it, the polytheists embraced Islam.

And the idolaters surrendered because of it.

وَسَاعَدَكَ السَّعْدُ فِيمَا أرَدْتَ

وَسَاعَدَكَ السَّعْدُ فِيمَا أرَدْتَ

فَكَانَ كَمَا يَنْبَغِي أَنْ يَكُونْ

فَكَانَ كَمَا يَنْبَغِي أَنْ يَكُونْ

And good fortune aided you in what you desired.

Good fortune assisted you in what you wanted,

So it was as it ought to be.

So it was as it should be.
