ياO وَليَّsaint of الإلاهِGod أنتَyou جَوادٌgenerous
يا وَليَّ الإلاهِ أنتَ جَوادٌ
وقَصدناand we made for الىtoward حِماكَyour sanctuary المَنيعِthe impregnable
وقَصدنا الى حِماكَ المَنيعِ
O saint of God, you are generous.
And we have made for your impregnable sanctuary.
راعَناalarmed us الدّهْرُtime بالخُطوبِwith calamities فجِئْناso we came
راعَنا الدّهْرُ بالخُطوبِ فجِئْنا
نَرْتَجيwe hope for منْfrom عُلاكَyour eminence حُسْنَgoodness of الصّنيعِthe treatment
نَرْتَجي منْ عُلاكَ حُسْنَ الصّنيعِ
Time has alarmed us with calamities, so we have come,
Hoping for kind treatment from your eminence.
فمدَدْناso we stretched out لكَto you الأكُفَّthe palms نُرَجّيwe hope for
فمدَدْنا لكَ الأكُفَّ نُرَجّي
عَوْدَةَreturn of العِزِّglory تحْتَunder شمْلٍa gathering جَميعِunited
عَوْدَةَ العِزِّ تحْتَ شمْلٍ جَميعِ
So we have stretched out our palms to you, hoping
For glory's return within a united fold.
قدindeed جعَلْناwe have made وسيلَةًa means تُرْبَكَyour dust الزّاthe pure (first part)
قد جعَلْنا وسيلَةً تُرْبَكَ الزّا
كِي(completion of 'pure') زُلْفىnearness إلىto العَليمِthe All-Knowing السّميعِthe All-Hearing
كِي زُلْفى إلى العَليمِ السّميعِ
Indeed, we have made your pure dust a means
Of drawing near to the All-Knowing, the All-Hearing.
كمْhow many غَريبٍa stranger أسْرَىjourneyed by night إليْكَto you فَوافَىand then arrived
كمْ غَريبٍ أسْرَى إليْكَ فَوافَى
برِضىًwith contentment عاجِلٍimmediate وخَيْرٍand good fortune سَريعِswift
برِضىً عاجِلٍ وخَيْرٍ سَريعِ
How many a stranger has journeyed to you by night and arrived
With immediate contentment and swift good fortune.
