يا لَيْلَةً ساهَرْتُ طالِعَ أُفْقِها

يا لَيْلَةً ساهَرْتُ طالِعَ أُفْقِها

حتّى تمايَلَ غارِباً أو غاطِسا

حتّى تمايَلَ غارِباً أو غاطِسا

O night, I kept vigil with the luminary rising on its horizon,

O night I stayed up gazing at its horizon

Until it swayed, setting or sinking.

Until it leaned setting or submerging

والصّبْحُ منْ ريحِ الشّمالِ بزَكْمَةٍ

والصّبْحُ منْ ريحِ الشّمالِ بزَكْمَةٍ

ترَكَتْهُ منْ بعْدِ اسْتِكانٍ عاطِسا

ترَكَتْهُ منْ بعْدِ اسْتِكانٍ عاطِسا

And dawn had a cold from the north wind,

And the morning with the north wind's stuffiness

Which left it sneezing after its repose.

Left it after submission sneezing
